“Sometimes we need to experience darkness to appreciate the light.”

What are your fears and/or concerns right now?

The impact this will have in our economy globally. The safety of my family and loved ones. The frustration of not being able to do more.

What have you learned from living this new normal?

I’ve learned that we are greater than our fears. We’ve been forced to do things that we couldn’t have imagined we could do. I’ve learned about technology (first time using Zoom!) Even as an introvert, I crave having company. Staying connected is vital for humans. I’ve learned that intangible things remain the most important in times of crisis.

Do you think anything positive will come from all of this?

Definitely. I think it is already happening. We are appreciating more of the things we usually take for granted. We are being creative and finding ways to stay connected through physical distancing. People are coming together to express and do things they always wanted to do but they hadn’t. We are reaching out to old friends, to family, to strangers to help and support. Next time we see each other, we will enjoy each other’s company and will be thankful just for being there. Sometimes we need to experience darkness to appreciate the light.
